This course brought in the 5 year anniversary of Jetset Rehab Education! Over these amazing 5 years, the Jetset Rehab Education team has seen the best of the best Physical Therapy instructors. This is why it is an amazing compliment to the Owens Recovery Science team and Johnny Owens that this was probably our best reviewed course. The venue was the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas and we have never had a classroom like this! The pristine lecture hall, fully stocked beverage coolers, and the world class gym was all we could ask for to put on a Physical Therapy course.
In my opinion as a Physical Therapist who has been practicing for 10+ years is that Blood Flow Restriction is going to be a major player in the future of Physical Therapy. (I urge you, not recommend but urge you to take this course…..with us or anyone, but just take it!) We as rehab professionals need to know the benefits of this method of optimizing muscular strength. The lecture also revealed that there are also added benefits to BFR such as improved VO2 max, improved bone density, reduction in myostatin (a protein responsible for blocking myogenesis or inhibiting muscle cell growth), pain reduction, and improved endurance.
Does any of this sound like something that can help our patients?!?!?!
After this course, our students achieved a certification in Blood Flow Restriction. Below is a photo journal of the course with the special brand of Jetset Rehab Education in Las Vegas to spice it up. Take a look below!
The day started in the lobby of the amazing VDARA hotel which was included with Jetset Rehab Education registration. Here we were able to meet what has become our Jetset family, some who have been taking 5 years of our courses! Old friends from PT school, former co-workers, new acquaintances all met here. At 8:15 sharp we were loaded onto a private bus which was to take us to the UFC Performance Institute.
After a few hours of lecture and the provided breakfast and coffee, we headed off the the UFC Performance Institute gym. Here we put theory into practice. We were able to learn the nuances of the Delphi Blood Flow Restriction cuffs and work out in the gym. Our general criteria was to perform 80% lower extremity occlusion or 50% upper extremity occlusion and perform 70 reps (30-15-15-15) of a 10-30% repetition maximum. Note: I have had a few inquiries as to why “cheaper options” are not used for cuffs. These Delphi systems self calibrate, keep a consistent pressure while working out, and inflate fast. There is quite a bit of research comparing the units for those interested. The Delphi unit is FDA approved and is the gold standard for this area of practice. There are also many who question the safety of this practice. With the Delphi cuffs, there is little to no risk of any issues due to circulation.
Every jetset class has, food provided, small classrooms, and an after class q&a networking event.
After the course was over, we bussed everyone to 595 craft and kitchen, to ask Johnny Owens questions, hang out, and meet some family and friends.
Reflecting on this course I have realized that this area of practice is going to be a vital piece to the future of Physical Therapy. I urge you to take this course, we had fantastic reviews and it convinced a lot of skeptics to add this to their clinics.
We hope to bring this course back next year in 2020 but there are many courses with Owens Recovery Science out there. check them out HERE: https://www.owensrecoveryscience.com/
